STATE TESTING
The 8th
grade Social Studies State Exam is scheduled for Tuesday, June 2nd
and Wednesday, June 3rd during 1st and 2nd
periods. Please be sure to be in attendance during those days and try to
avoid scheduling appointments, etc. during that time. Good luck students!
On Thursday, June 4,
2009, 9th grade students who are eligible will be taking the Performance
portion of their Regents Exam in Earth Science. Students have been
assigned to 6 small groups for the testing.
Mr. Dick shared the schedule with
the students and they know what period to report to the science room. It is important for 9th graders to
be in school on this date and for them to report to the Science room during
their testing period. If you have any
questions about this assessment, please contact Mr. Dick.
ACTIVITY DAY FOR 7TH AND 8TH
GRADERS
The 7th and 8th grade
Team has tentatively scheduled a fun-filled activity day for all 7th
and 8th graders on Thursday, June 11th. This is
open to all students unless he/she is behind on his/her academic work or has a
major discipline issue during the last couple of weeks of school.
This activity day will include all different sports activities and
a barbeque at the Legion Field in Campbell. We hope to see all of our 7th
and 8th grade students there on that day!!!
SUMMER SCHOOL
Registration for summer school will be open from June 1st through
July 1st. Please see your guidance counselor to
register. Summer School will be offered for Grades 6-12 at the Campbell
building. The program begins July 6th and runs through August
11th. Regent/RCT exams will be given August 12th,
13th and 14th. Classes will be offered Monday
through Thursday from 8:00am – 12:00pm. A free breakfast and lunch
program will be provided.
In order for a
student to attend the summer school program offered at Campbell-Savona Central
School certain criteria must be met. The following are some highlights
from the guidelines that will be used to determine whether or not a student is
eligible to attend summer school at CSCS:
1.
Students
can only take a summer school course that they have previously been enrolled in
and failed.
2.
Students
must have earned at least a score of 50 in order to attend summer school.
3.
40% of
the student’s averaged grade earned during the regular school year and 60% of
the student’s summer school average will be used to determined his/her new
average.
4.
Students
will be allowed 3 absences during the course of the summer school
program. If the student has more than 3 absences, the student will be
dropped from the summer program and must repeat the class during the following
school year.
5.
A
maximum of 3 courses can be taken during the summer school program. Each
student will work with his/her guidance counselor to determine which course(s)
need(s) to be taken.
INFORMATION FOR FALL SPORTS
As we begin to close
out the 2008-2009 school year, it is time to start thinking about the fall
sports season. Sports physicals are the
first item that comes to mind. The
school held sports physicals on May 8th, May 19th and June 3rd. Make-up sports physicals for the fall season
will be held at the high school on August 12th in the morning. Anyone who plans to go out for a fall sport
that did not get a sports physical, will need to see Mrs. Fleet, the School Nurse,
prior to this date to get a Health History form. This form must be returned in order to be
seen by the school doctor. If you wish
to get a sports physical done by your own physician, you need to pick up the
paperwork from Mrs. Fleet, take it to your doctor and get the physical, then
return it to Mrs. Fleet. Once she has it
on file the athlete can be allowed to practice.
Every year athletes forget to take care of this and then cannot start
practices with their teams, which could lead to their being cut from a team.
Fall sports
practices will begin on Monday August 17th for JV and Varsity
teams. Modified teams are allowed to
start on Tuesday, September 1st according to the State Athletic Association. If your son or daughter did not attend a
meeting before school ended in June, they need to contact the coach to get
start up information.
The required
athlete/parent handbook meeting for JV and Varsity fall athletes will be on
Monday August 17th in the High
School Auditorium at 6:00pm. The
required athlete/parent handbook meeting for fall Modified athletes will be on
Tuesday, September 8th at 6:00pm in the High School Auditorium. The athlete and at least one of their parents
must attend this meeting for the athlete to be eligible to participate. Each coach will have a meeting with the
parents immediately following the handbook meeting. Please put these dates on your calendar so
your child will not miss out.
