2010-2011 Course Requests
Student course registration
for the 2010-11 school year has been completed. Next week, parents will
be receiving a letter and a copy of their child’s course requests. It is
important for parents and students to spend some time and to take a look at the
courses that were requested. You are not required to return the selection
sheet, but if you have questions or would like to have courses added or
dropped, please contact the guidance office by Monday, March 22nd.

spring break this year. ELA is scheduled
for 8th graders on Tuesday, April 27th and Wednesday,
April 28th in the morning.
For 7th graders, ELA is scheduled on Wednesday, April 28th
and Thursday, April 29th, 2010.
Our Math testing is scheduled for May 5th through the 7th,
2010, with 8th grade testing on Wednesday, May 5th and
Thursday, May 6th, and 7th grade testing on Thursday, May
6th and Friday, May 7th.
Please be sure that your student is planning on being in attendance
during that week for his/her testing.
There are make-up dates for testing in case of emergencies, but student
attendance during the weeks of testing is very much appreciated. Our students and teachers have worked very
hard to prepare for these exams—good luck and keep up the good work!
Junior/Senior Prom
The Class of 2011 Prom
Committee has been meeting regularly to plan for a spectacular prom in
2010. The Prom will be held at Corning Community College on May 1, 2010
from 8 p.m. – 11:30 p.m. Crowning will take place at 11:30 p.m. and
parents are welcome to attend the crowning. The theme is Music of the
Night Masquerade Ball. The colors are teal, royal blue, purple and
silver. More details will be available soon. Mark your calendar
now….you won’t want to miss this Prom! Reminder
for students on the restriction list, you will need to go to SOS and complete
passing work the week prior to the prom in order to be eligible to attend the
prom.
Prom Dress Boutique
The Campbell-Savona Prom
Dress Boutique is currently open and available for girls who are in need of a
prom dress. The boutique is filled with beautiful dresses of all colors and
sizes. These dresses are donated by individuals who have worn them once and want
them to be passed on to a girl who is looking for her dream dress. Rebecca Lewis (a PTSO mom) and her daughter,
Zelie Lewis, have organized and decorated the boutique for the 2010 prom
season. Ronda Strawser, Home-School Counselor for Campbell-Savona Jr.-Sr. High
School, is available (along with Zelie) to assist girls during their free
periods to find a dress. The PTSO is asking for a $5.00 donation per dress if
possible, however no girl will be denied a dress due to financial difficulty.
Dresses can be donated by contacting Ronda Strawser at 527-9800, ext. 2444 or
Rebecca Lewis at 527-6027.
8th Grade Transition Night
We have scheduled our 8th
grade Transition Night for Wednesday, April 7th at 6:00pm in the
LGI. We invite our current 8th graders and their parents to attend
the event. During this presentation, we will give you
information about what high school will be like for your child. We will discuss such topics as graduation
requirements, Regents requirements, class rank and we will also provide you
with a copy of the courses your student has selected for next year. We also plan to have teachers available to
talk about the classes that your students will be taking next year. We hope to see you there!!!
Incentive For The Third Marking Period
The 7th and 8th
Grade Team reminds all students in 7th and 8th grade that
we will be having another incentive activity scheduled after the end of the
third marking period. In order to earn
the incentive activity, students must pass all of their core classes and not
receive a discipline consequence for the entire marking period. This marking period’s incentive activity has
not been determined as of yet, but in the past, we have done such activities as
an ice cream social, an afternoon outdoor activity, and a movie in the
LGI. The past two incentives have been a
huge success and we want as many students to be able to participate as possible
in this incentive. Good luck and work
hard!!!

Attendance:
The Campbell-Savona Jr./Sr.
High School monitors student attendance very carefully. We are concerned
about the welfare of all of our students and want to ensure they are
safe. When a student is absent from school, the school attempts to
contact the parents. If your child will be out of school, please call the
Assistant Principals office at 527-9800 x1410. In addition, please send
in a written note with your child for our records.
We would also like to
encourage our students to be to school on time as tardiness to school can disrupt
the educational process for all students.
Because attendance is
extremely important for the success of our students, a letter is sent home at
the completion of every five weeks to parents of students who have missed five
or more days of school. These absences include excused and unexcused
absences. The letter is an opportunity for parents to compare their
records to the schools records and notify us if there is a discrepancy.
Congratulations to the
following students who had perfect attendance for the first and second marking
periods of the 2009-10 school year! Perfect Attendance requires a student
to be present in school every day, all day with no tardies to school. As
this is no easy task, these students need to be commended for their dedication
to their education. A pizza party will be held for these students on
Friday, March 5th during their lunch to celebrate their
success. Keep up the good work!
