END OF YEAR TESTING INFORMAITON

June 12th is the last day of school for 7th -12th grade students with dismissal time being 11:30am.  Local final exams will start on June 12th and will run through the week of June 16th.  Regents and RCT exams begin on June 16th for our students with the last exams scheduled for June 24th.  Information regarding exam schedules will be shared with parents and students THROUGH the guidance office in the upcoming weeks.  Please be aware of these dates and be prepared for the end of the year tests.  Breakfast and lunch will be served during testing weeks for those who are interested.

STATE TESTING

The 8th grade Social Studies State Exam is scheduled for Tuesday, June 2nd and Wednesday, June 3rd during 1st and 2nd periods.  Please be sure to be in attendance during those days and try to avoid scheduling appointments, etc. during that time.

CODE OF CONDUCT REMINDERS

The school year is winding down and we only have a couple months of school left.  It has been the schools process to assign ISS (in-school suspension) to students who have violated the codes for cell phones, electronic devices, dress and book/large bags.  The consequences for these offenses for the remainder of the year will be an after school detention.  Education is our priority and we do not want to take our students out of classes especially this close to the end of the year.  Please remind your students that cell phones and electronic devices are prohibited during the school day between 7:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.  In addition, students may not carry large purses, bags or book bags during the school day.  These bags need to be kept in their lockers.  As the weather gets warmer, dress code becomes a topic of concern.  Please make sure your student is meeting the dress code requirements before leaving home in the morning.   Thank you for your help in promoting a positive learning environment for all of the Campbell-Savona students.

SUMMER SCHOOL

Campbell-Savona Central School will be hosting a summer school program for grades 6-12.  In order for a student to attend the summer school program offered at Campbell-Savona Central School certain criteria must be met.  The following are some highlights from the guidelines that will be used to determine whether or not a student is eligible to attend summer school at CSCS:

1.       Students can only take a summer school course that they have previously been enrolled in and failed.

2.       Students must have earned at least a score of 50 in order to attend summer school.

3.       40% of the student’s averaged grade earned during the regular school year and 60% of the student’s summer school average will be used to determined his/her new average.

4.       Students will be allowed 3 absences during the course of the summer school program.  If the student has more than 3 absences, the student will be dropped from the summer program and must repeat the class during the following school year.

5.       A maximum of 3 courses can be taken during the summer school program.  Each student will work with his/her guidance counselor to determine which course(s) need(s) to be taken.

SPORTS PHYSICALS

Physicals are scheduled for May 8th, 19th and June 3rd.  Students must return their completed health history form to the Mrs. Fleet, in the Nurse’s Office, by Monday, May 5th.  Any student that is in 7th, 10th or new to the district and has not had a physical at this point will have their physical done by the schools physician on one of the days listed above.  If you any questions, please feel free to call Lisa Fleet at 527-9800, ext. 1411.

At Campbell-Savona Jr./Sr. High, we strive to instill a love for reading in our students so we are having our second book fair at the Jr./Sr. High School Library this year.  This is an event where students will be able to buy one book and get another book of equal value to the first book for free!  The Book Fair will be open during the school day throughout the week of Monday, May 11th through Friday, May 15th.   We will also have a family event from 3:00pm-6:00pm on Wednesday, May 13th. Please feel free to come with your children to purchase some of the great books being offered.

Parents play a major role in their children’s choices about alcohol, tobacco or other drugs. A recent national survey of parents and teens by the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University found one-third of teen partygoers have been to parties where teens were drinking alcohol, smoking marijuana, or using cocaine, ecstasy or prescription drugs while a parent was present. By age 17, nearly half (46 percent) of teens have been at such parties where parents were present.

As a parent, you cannot give alcohol to your teen’s friends under the age of 21 under any circumstance,

even in your own home, even with their parent’s permission.

You also cannot knowingly allow a person under 21, other than your own child, to remain in your home or on your property while they are consuming or possessing alcohol.

<<<   There are legal consequences if you do.  >>>

Simply taking away the car keys does not solve all of the problems related to underage drinking.  Every day, at least six youths under 21 die from non-driving alcohol-related causes, such as drowning and suicide.  Delinquent behaviors also increase with underage drinking. You can protect your children by following these guidelines when hosting teen parties:

  • Host safe, alcohol-free activities and events for youth during prom and graduation season
  • Refuse to supply alcohol to children or allow drinking in your home or on your property
  • Be at home when your teenager has a party
  • Make sure your teenager’s friends do not bring alcohol into your home
  • Talk to other parents about not providing alcohol at youth events
  • Report underage drinking
